Congratulations to all of our marvellous Bookhouse volunteers, and to our student helpers, who together made the 2017 UQ Alumni Book Fair® such a success. The biennial Book Fair is our major fund-raising event, and we thank everyone who came along to our 20th Book Fair (if you missed it, have a look at our Press Release, glance at a few photographs from the first day of the UQ Alumni Book Fair® [click here], or check here for some of highlights from our Rare Book Auction). The UQ Alumni Book Fair will be back in 2019. We look forward to seeing you all then (or at our Christmas Book Sale, in November 2017).
Founded in 1967, Alumni Friends of The University of Queensland Inc (also known as Alumni Friends) celebrates a Golden Jubilee in 2017. The association connects engaged alumni and friends to support the endeavours of the ‘future alumni,’ educators and researchers of The University of Queensland (UQ). Membership is open to everyone who has an interest in UQ: parents, students, alumni, and friends. Operated by a large group of dedicated volunteers, the association continues to raise significant funds through the very popular biennial UQ Alumni Book Fair, and through donations and gifts from members. The close association of our members with UQ cannot merely be measured in dollar terms, but activity to date includes the disbursement of over $8 million (inflation-adjusted) to the University and to its students.
Our Golden Jubilee celebrations include a program of special events, fund-raising, a membership drive, and a project sharing stories and memories of UQ. Click here to read some of our stories, and to share your own.
New members are always welcome: Membership is open to all members of the community who have an interest in the University (including, but not restricted to, alumnae). Members receive three annual newsletters, access to discounted UQ library membership, and the opportunity to participate in a range of social activities during the year. Many members also join some of our special interest groups, or become more actively involved as volunteers. Our current calendar of events is here.
