Connecting & Giving Back: Celebrating, Supporting, & Encouraging UQ’s ‘Future Alumni’
Did you know… that Alumni Friends created, and still supports, the UQ Alumnus of the Year Award? The 2017 UQ ALumnus of the Year, Adjunct Professor John Story AO, will be the guest speaker at our 2018 GM (19th May 2018). PLEASE ALSO NOTE the closing date for nominating Alumni for the 2018 award is 4 May 2018. Details (and the nomination form) are available here.
The biennial UQ Alumni Book Fair® is our major fund-raising event (next in 2019). If you missed the 20th Fair, have a look at our Press Release, glance at a few photographs from the first day of the UQ Alumni Book Fair [click here], or check here for some of highlights from our Rare Book Auction).
St Lucia and Long Pocket offices: Details on how to find the all-important Book Shed (book donations always welcome), and information on how to find our offices at UQ’s St Lucia and Long Pocket Campuses are available here. Or contact us via email or telephone for more.
Our Golden Jubilee celebrations continue until May 2018. Our 12-month program includes special events, fund-raising (have a look at the photographs of the Golden Jubilee bursary presentations to UQ students), and a project sharing stories and memories of UQ (click here to read some of our stories, and to share your own).
Founded in 1967, Alumni Friends of The University of Queensland Inc (also known as Alumni Friends) celebrates a Golden Jubilee in 2017-18. The Association connects engaged alumni and friends to support the endeavours of the ‘future alumni,’ educators and researchers of The University of Queensland (UQ). Membership is open to everyone who has an interest in UQ: parents, students, alumni, and friends. Operated by a large group of dedicated volunteers, the association continues to raise significant funds through the very popular biennial UQ Alumni Book Fair, and through donations and gifts from members. The close association of our members with UQ cannot merely be measured in dollar terms, but activity to date includes the disbursement of over $8 million (inflation-adjusted) to the University and to its students.
New members are always welcome: Membership is open to all members of the community who have an interest in the University (including, but not restricted to, alumnae). Members receive three annual newsletters, access to discounted UQ library membership, and the opportunity to participate in a range of social activities during the year. Many members also join some of our special interest groups, or become more actively involved as volunteers. Our current calendar of events is here.
