History of Giving

Alumni Friends of The University of Queensland Inc, (previously known as The Alumni Association of The University of Queensland Inc), has donated millions of dollars to the University. Initially, the Association was responsible for the organisation of high-profile social activities which raised thousands of dollars  for major University projects. In more recent years (1988- ), the main fund-raising activity of the Association is the biennial UQ Alumni Book Fair.

Funds raised by the Association are donated to the educators, researchers and ‘future alumni’ of The University of Queensland–as prizes, scholarships, bursaries, and in the form of benefactions to support specific projects. Scholarships, Bursaries & Prizes include: Betty Fletcher Memorial Travelling Scholarship; David Dunlop Memorial Dental Bursary; Elizabeth Usher Memorial Travelling Scholarship ; Joan Wickham Engineering Scholarship ; Margaret Waugh Memorial Bursary; Richard Spencer Hopkins Memorial Prize ; UQ Sports Scholarships ; Veterinary Alumni Prize; UQ Alumnus of the Year ; UQ Graduate of the Year; and UQ Sport Great Court Race prize.

A detailed update summarising benefactions and donations made by the Association to The University of Queensland researchers, educators and ‘future Alumni’ (1967-2016) will be posted here shortly.
