Dentistry SIG Scholarship—Supporting Research for the Provision of Oral Healthcare for those Suffering Long-term Hardship

In recent years, the Dentistry group has been in ‘caretaker mode.’ Recently, we decided to explore options as to the way ahead; if the Dentistry SIG is to continue to accumulate funds, but not to be actively involved in organising events, we felt now might be the time to explore ‘what next.’ Under our watch, and thanks to the continued support of our Members, funds held in Trust have now reached a total of over $70,000.  After extensive discussions with the Head of School, we have agreed to see if we might increase the current funds to over $100,000, in order to establish an endowment fund to support Research for the Provision of Oral Health Care for those Suffering Long-term Hardship.

All additional donations are welcome (from all Members and supporters, and not just those who are members of the SIG). If YOU are able to support us, please contact the office (noting that your donation is for the Dentistry Fund).

All donations to support Alumni Friends’ projects – including the special Dentistry Appeal – can be made as a direct deposit to Alumni Friends of the University of Queensland Inc, Bank Account No: 1012 4990 ( BSB No: 064 158 ). Please let the office have a note of your kind donation (and the fund to which it is to be directed) so that a tax-deductible receipt can be issued. Donations can also be made by MasterCard/Visa, via the office (email or call 07 3365 1562). Thank you!

The Dentistry Alumni Special Interest Group was established in 1989 to foster mutually beneficial relations and a spirit of unity among Dentistry students, graduates and the School of Dentistry of The University of Queensland.  The Group has been an active supporter of, and donor to, the UQ School of Dentistry. The Association is responsible for the management of the David Dunlop Memorial Dental Bursary, and members have raised funds for the purchase of major items of equipment (in total, over $250,000—including a $50,000 grant towards the purchase of Cone Beam Dental Imaging Equipment). Our Dentistry SIG has a wonderful story of connection and celebration that all Members should be very proud. A story that will continue with the creation of this special Research fund to support UQ Dentistry. We thank everyone who is able to support us in achieving our $100,000 target—“only” less than $30,000 to go…..

Best wishes
